Push button start issues are one of those problems that can send you down a rabbit hole fast. The car just sits there - no response, no crank, nothing. Most people assume it's the key fob battery and move on. But on this 2009 Nissan Altima, it was a lot more involved than that.
We started with a full diagnostic scan using our Topdon scanner, pulling codes from multiple modules - the Body Control Module, the IPDM, and more. The BCM alone came back with 10 diagnostic trouble codes, including a B2191-00 flagging a key difference fault. That code is the system telling us it doesn't recognize the key the way it should. From there, we knew we were dealing with an anti-theft and intelligent key circuit issue, not just a simple fix.
We pulled the wiring diagrams through Mitchell1 for the anti-theft circuit on this exact vehicle - 2009 Nissan Altima, VIN-specific. Then we got hands-on. The steering column components came apart so we could get to the steering lock and ignition lock hardware directly. It's detailed, time-consuming work. But skipping steps here means missing the real cause.
That's exactly the kind of repair we handle at ABC Towing and Repair. Not just reading codes and guessing - actually tracing the problem through the system until we find it. No-start issues on modern vehicles with keyless ignition require both the right diagnostic equipment and the knowledge to interpret what the data is actually telling you. We've got both.
