This Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7 came in needing some serious attention under the hood. The cooling system had given up - worn water pump, a failing thermostat, and a belt tensioner and idler pulley that were well past due. Left alone, any one of those issues can snowball into a much bigger problem. All four together? That engine is running on borrowed time.
The old water pump tells the story pretty clearly. The internals were coated in rust-colored buildup, which is a sign that coolant flow had been compromised for a while. When a water pump starts to go, the engine can't regulate temperature the way it's supposed to. That puts extra stress on just about everything else.
We pulled the whole front of the engine apart to get proper access - water pump, thermostat housing, tensioner, and idler pulley all came off. Parts were sourced and everything went back together with quality Duralast components. That kind of teardown takes time to do right, but cutting corners on a cooling system repair is how you end up with a blown head gasket down the road.
Once everything was back together and the system was bled out, this Ram was running the way it should. Smooth idle, proper temps, no drama. That 5.7 Hemi is a solid engine when it's got what it needs to stay cool. This truck has a lot of miles left in it - and now the cooling system can actually support that.
At ABC Towing and Repair, LLC, this is the kind of truck repair work we do every day. We don't just swap parts - we figure out what actually caused the problem and fix it right the first time.
